India’s Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has launched a play-based learning material for children between the ages of three and eight called “Jaadui Pitara.” The program will be mandatory in at least 1,200 central government-run schools from the upcoming academic session.
The material includes playbooks, activity books, worksheets, toys, handbooks, flashcards, story cards, posters, puzzles, puppets, and children’s magazines. The curriculum framework for early childhood care was recommended by the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasized promoting learning based on toys, play, and lived experiences. The play-based teaching and learning material emphasize the development of children in five domains.
