Nuruddin Ahmed: A Creative Force in Assam’s Art and Culture

Nuruddin Ahmed is a well-known sculptor and art director from Assam. He became famous two decades ago for creating a live scene of the Titanic sinking in theater. He has also brought to life the ancient Maya civilization and Indraprastha, the capital of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, during Durga Puja celebrations. Recently, he displayed famous landmarks like the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China during the Durga Puja festival.

Nuruddin Ahmed :Pathshala Session and Science Fair

Nuruddin Ahmed led the 77th Pathshala session of the Assam Sahitya Sabha. This year, for the first time, a science fair was held alongside the literary activities from January 31 to February 4. The Assam Sahitya Sabha is an important organization that protects Assam’s cultural and literary heritage. It was founded in 1917 and has played a significant role in promoting the state’s language and culture. The science fair attracted many visitors from India and abroad, showcasing 21 departments related to science and technology.

Nuruddin Ahmed :Personal Journey and Contributions

In an interview, Nuruddin shared his excitement about organizing such a large science fair. He has worked in many science fairs before but this was a new experience for him. He expressed gratitude to local leaders for their support. Nuruddin has a deep connection with the Pathshala session, having worked on it 38 years ago. He started decorating the venue on January 19, with the help of 16 artists, including his two sons. Nuruddin has also revived traditional temple arches and created beautiful idols of Hindu gods and goddesses, despite facing challenges due to his Islamic faith. His work is now appreciated by both Hindus and Muslims. Last year, he received praise for recreating Indraprastha during Durga Puja, showcasing his talent and dedication to art and culture in Assam.
