The Inspiring Journey of Shagufta Hanaphie

Shagufta Hanaphie, co-founder of Best Friendz Society alongside her friend Rajiv, is also the founder of SHE – Shagufta Hanaphie Events, a PR and event boutique. Her philanthropic journey took a significant turn during the COVID-19 pandemic when she and her team provided food for 400 villagers in Ernakulam, Kerala. Following Cyclone Amphan’s devastation in Bengal, Shagufta’s team traveled to the Sundarbans, distributing food, dry rations, and clothes to those in need. Once again, during the pandemic, Best Friends Society reached out to the affected areas.

A Passion for Empowerment

Shagufta initiated the Hunger Free Bengal campaign and has dedicated herself to coaching emerging startups. She offers personal counseling to lonely individuals and divorcees, and even facilitates matches for singles. Her commitment extends to working with suicidal individuals and conducting counseling sessions for young boys and girls, showcasing her dedication to mental health and community support.

Overcoming Adversity

Despite her numerous achievements, Shagufta faced significant challenges in her early life. Growing up in a joint family in a century-old bungalow in Kidderpore, South Kolkata, she was adopted by her uncle and aunt. As a shy child, she struggled with health issues that hindered her education. Shagufta recalls being pampered excessively, which led to lethargy. A ligament injury in class 6 affected her left side, and at 9, she underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder, which had 72 stones.

Despite these adversities, her father’s friend, Uncle Junaid, played a pivotal role in reigniting her motivation to study. Bedridden and in traction, he patiently taught her Math, igniting a newfound love for the subject. After three months, she returned to school, although her principal expressed concern about her mental trauma. Shagufta’s journey reflects resilience and the power of support in overcoming life’s challenges.
