Elderly Pilgrims Lead India’s Hajj Contingent to Saudi Arabia

The first batch of Indian pilgrims embarking on the sacred journey of Hajj from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport included two remarkable women, 99-year-old Hajan Asghari and 98-year-old Chandri, a resident of Haryana’s Nuh district. Their unwavering faith and determination to undertake this spiritual pilgrimage at such an advanced age serve as an inspiration to all.

Facilitation and Support by Indian Authorities

Dr. Liaqat Ali Afaqi, Director of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and CEO of the Hajj Committee of India, personally presented travel documents to Asghari and Chandri, wishing them a safe and blessed journey. He appreciated their devotion and presented them with shawls and bouquets, requesting them to pray for the well-being of Indian Hajjis and the nation’s development and peace.

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Hajj Committee, a total of 48,986 Indian pilgrims have safely reached Saudi Arabia through 161 flights so far. Additionally, 241 Indian Hajj volunteers have been deployed to assist and guide the pilgrims throughout their journey.

Advice and Caution for Pilgrims

Dr. Afaqi cautioned pilgrims against falling prey to rumors and propaganda, urging them to ignore “smaller irritants” and respect the rules and regulations of Saudi Arabia, as they are guests in another country. He warned against the misuse and careless handling of the Hajj kitchen facility, a unique privilege enjoyed by Indian pilgrims.

Furthermore, Dr. Afaqi advised pilgrims not to feel hassled by the Saudi government’s rules and to remain focused on the original purpose of their pilgrimage. He emphasized the importance of ignoring misleading videos and information that might divert them from their spiritual journey.

With meticulous planning, facilitation, and guidance from Indian authorities, the Hajj contingent, led by the inspiring examples of Asghari and Chandri, embarks on this sacred journey, seeking blessings and spiritual fulfillment in the holy lands of Saudi Arabia.
