BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and the first Ramadan celebration

The recently established BAPS Hindu Mandir (temple) in Abu Dhabi hosted its inaugural Ramadan event named “Omsiyyat,” where individuals from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds enjoyed an iftar, marking the evening meal to break the fast. The purpose of the gathering was to encourage spiritual contemplation, conversation, and the strengthening of communal ties during the holy month of Ramadan.

Notable Attendees and Influential Members of the Community

The unprecedented interfaith gathering brought together ministers from the Emirati government, a rabbi, a vicar, representatives from the Bohra and Sikh communities, government officials, ambassadors, diplomats, community leaders, artists, businesspeople, and visitors from other countries. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; and Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development were among the notable individuals who attended the event.

Increasing the Strength of Relationships and Fostering Harmony

Sheikh Nahyan highlighted the significant bond and strong link between India and the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing the importance of working together and sharing a common goal in a world divided by conflict.

He thanked the BAPS Sanstha (organisxation) for convening an interfaith event commemorating the holy month of Ramadan and promoting peace, tolerance, human brotherhood, and interfaith harmony in the UAE.

Pujya Swami Brahmaviharidas, who headed the temple project from the BAPS Sanstha, expressed appreciation to the UAE leaders and ministers for their continual love and support. He regarded the month of Ramadan as a time for self-discipline, self-introspection, thankfulness, kindness, and true emotions of camaraderie.

Many groups organized an event aimed at recognizing the benefits of fasting, rituals, and prayers, with the goal of creating unity and understanding, in a collaborative effort.
