Electricity Reaches Naxal-Affected Area Sukma, Bringing Joy To Villagers

In a noteworthy achievement for development efforts in naxal-affected area, Elmagunda village in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district has finally received electricity, marking a significant transformation for its residents on the eve of India’s 77th Independence Day.

The successful electrification of households in this remote village, long affected by Naxal violence, was accomplished through the collaborative efforts of the district police and the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited.

Until August 14, Elmagunda had remained without electricity, posing challenges to the daily lives of its inhabitants. The district police, in tandem with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), engaged in extensive efforts to engage with villagers. They aimed to raise awareness about the activities of Naxals and encourage a focus on the village’s development. Villagers were also encouraged to distance themselves from Naxalites.

Around six months prior, a security forces camp was established in Elmagunda, catalyzing developmental initiatives. Bastar Range IG Police Sundarraj P stressed the role of security camps as integrated development centres in promoting progress.
