Hepatic steatosis, commonly known as fatty liver disease, is a condition where excess fat accumulates in the liver. This build-up can lead to liver damage and other health complications. If left untreated, it can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
Fatty liver disease can be caused by alcohol consumption, obesity, high cholesterol levels, and diabetes. It can also result from taking certain medications or exposure to certain toxins.
