Women’s Education in Saudi Arabia: A Journey of Progress

For many years, women in Saudi Arabia were not allowed to receive an education, facing restrictions that barred them from attending school until as recently as 1956. This limited their opportunities for personal growth and societal progress, perpetuating a system of male dominance and female subservience.

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saudi initiated the first step towards change in 1960 by opening the first school for girls in Saudi Arabia, marking the beginning of a gradual shift towards greater gender equality.
