High Commissioner for a Day Competition 2024

The British High Commission in New Delhi has announced the annual ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition. This event invites talented young women from India to showcase their skills and leadership on an international level. Participants need to submit a one-minute video answering the question: “How can the UK and India collaborate on technology to benefit future generations?”

Submission Details

To enter the competition, applicants should post their videos on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. They must tag ‘@UKinIndia’ and use the hashtag ‘#DayOfTheGirl’. The deadline for submissions is September 4, 2024. Additionally, participants must complete an online form to finalize their entry.

Supporting Future Leaders

Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India, emphasized the importance of this competition. She said, “The UK-India Technology Security Initiative shows how we can work together on crucial technologies.” Cameron highlighted the UK’s leadership in technology, such as the discovery of graphene and advancements in AI, while praising India’s tech innovations like mobile banking and its lunar mission.

Since its launch in 2017, the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition has been held every year to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11. This year’s event is supported by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

Last year’s winner, Shreya Dharmarajan from Chennai, took part in various diplomatic activities, including discussions at the UN and collaborations on electric vehicle infrastructure. The competition aims to inspire young women to share their ideas and become future leaders. Cameron encourages all young women to participate and express their visions for the future.
