Queen Victoria’s Letter Reveals True Nature of 19th Century Cow Protection Movements

In 1893, Queen Victoria penned a letter to Viceroy Lansdowne, shedding light on the cow-protection movement led by Arya Samaj. Contrary to the British narrative that painted the movement as targeting Muslims who slaughtered cows, the Queen revealed a different truth.

She acknowledged that the movement was, in fact, directed against the British rulers, who slaughtered more cows for their army than the Muslims did. This letter stands as undeniable evidence of the anti-colonial nature of the cow protection movements.

Intelligence reports further emphasized that the cow-protection question unified Hindus of all sects, transcending their differences on other matters.
