Tajamul Naseem Lone Selected for Prestigious Fulbright Program in USA

Tajamul Naseem Lone, a 38-year-old higher secondary school teacher from Dangiwacha, Baramulla district in North Kashmir, has been chosen for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program. He is one of only seven teachers selected from across India for this prestigious scholarship. The program, which promotes global educational exchange, saw fierce competition with 3,200 applicants from 65 countries.

Professional Development Opportunity

The scholarship offers Lone a unique chance to gain professional teaching experience at an American university for six weeks. He will collaborate with international teachers to deepen his understanding of teaching methods, student-centred pedagogy, and instructional techniques. The program will cover important educational issues such as gender equity in teaching, media literacy, and environmental education. Participants will also have field experiences with U.S. partner teachers.

Educational Background and Career

Lone’s educational background includes an M.Phil in Zoology from Bundelkhand University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Kashmir. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in environmental science. With nine years of experience in education, including roles as an ALOHA administrator and course instructor, Lone brings a wealth of knowledge to the program.

Lone credits his success to the support from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dangiwacha and guidance from Fulbright alumnus Rameez Sudan. Jennifer Gibson, Branch Chief of the Teacher Exchange Branch, congratulated Lone, emphasising that the award symbolises the Fulbright Program’s mission to promote mutual understanding and global education.

This achievement not only recognizes Lone’s teaching abilities but also puts Kashmir on the global education map. It provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and the sharing of educational best practices between India and the USA. The experience gained through this program will undoubtedly benefit Lone’s students and colleagues upon his return, contributing to the improvement of education in his home region.
