Despite being the founder of Hyderabad and a visionary ruler, Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah is not as well-remembered as the Nizams, who had no part in the city’s establishment. While many great civilizations and cities honor their founders, Hyderabad appears to be an exception.
In popular culture, the city is primarily associated with pearls, with the contributions of its founder – a prolific poet and a patron of the arts and architecture – often overlooked.
Nonetheless, as Hyderabad celebrates the 458th anniversary of Quli Qutb Shah’s birth, it is important to acknowledge and celebrate his overlooked legacy.
