The Rabab, A Traditional Musical Instrument of Kashmir

One such young man is Saraf Ali Bhat, a student at SSM College Srinagar.

Saraf, a resident of the saffron town of Pampore, has been playing the Rabab for the past year with a passion for preserving the legacy of folk music. The Rabab, which has a pear-shaped body and a long neck, is a stringed instrument played with a bow. It has a unique sound that is unlike any other musical instrument and has been an integral part of the traditional music of Kashmir for centuries.

Saraf was introduced to the Rabab by a local musician in Pampore, and he was immediately captivated by the instrument’s sound and versatility. He soon became obsessed with learning how to play it and started practicing every day. His dedication and hard work paid off, and he soon became proficient in playing the Rabab.
