Hurriyat’s Disappearance And Kashmir’s New Dawn

Once, the Hurriyat Conference wielded immense power, declaring frequent hartals across the Kashmir Valley with ease. Its leaders, comprising former legislators, retired professors, and minor politicians, vehemently criticized India while orchestrating a sustained campaign against security forces. A multitude of stone throwers used to paralyze Srinagar and other towns on their handlers’ command. But now, they seem to have disappeared. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference office in Srinagar’s affluent Raj Bagh area stands deserted, sealed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The secessionist leaders, torn by internal money disputes and government investigations into terror funding, have abandoned it altogether.
