The Mushroom Cultivation Business

Besides being tasty, mushrooms are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. Nowadays, mushroom vegetables have been included in the list of people’s favourite vegetables. This vegetable is grown at a temperature between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, which requires 55 to 75% humidity. Kashmir is the perfect place for the cultivation and processing of mushrooms. Over the years, the mushroom has become a famous vegetable in Kashmir. Mainly three types of mushrooms are grown here, which include button, milky and dinner. Mushroom cultivation has become a focus area in Kashmir under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. Under this scheme, quality seeds are provided to the farmers, who are given training in scientific cultivation techniques. The 50% subsidy and technical knowledge given by the administration are profitable for the farmers. Chief agriculture officer of Anantnag Mushroom cultivation is employing Kashmir’s youth and becoming a source of income. Successful cultivation of mushrooms includes good compost, mushroom seeds and the right temperature. The proper training in this cultivation is given to the mushroom cultivator cum operator and farmers. Due to mushrooms’ unique taste and nutritious value, the market for mushrooms is growing remarkably snappy. There are hundreds of success stories of mushroom cultivation businesses in Kashmir. This scheme is proving to be very good for educated youth, especially girls, who are earning money by producing mushrooms sitting at home. The Kashmir government is encouraging and promoting mushroom cultivation so that more and more people can take advantage of this scheme and earn a livelihood.
