Triumph of Areeb Ahmad: A Beacon of Dedication from Khatauli in ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 Mission

Areeb Ahmad, a talented young man from Khatauli, diligently carved his path to become a scientist and secure a coveted spot within the ISRO team for the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

The landing of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon stirred emotions beyond national pride for the residents of Khatauli, a highway city in Western Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. Among them, a luminary emerged—a member of the distinguished team of scientists and engineers responsible for India’s groundbreaking achievement, marking the nation as the first to reach the Moon’s South Pole.

As Chandrayaan-3 made its lunar contact, ushering in global euphoria among Indians, Khatauli’s neighbourhood denizens hastened to Areeb’s ancestral residence. They intended to felicitate his family and bask in the glory of “their own” son’s success.

In the lead-up to the launch, Areeb’s apprehensions were palpable. His maternal uncle, M Asad Faroqui, revealed his pre-launch anxiety, a sentiment so profound that even a haircut seemed trivial.

Amid his journey, Areeb aced the ISRO’s Centralized Recruitment Board 2019 Examination for the scientist post. Despite familial inclinations toward All India civil services, Areeb ardently embraced his passion for rocket science and space exploration.

Areeb’s father, Qazi Mehtab Zia, humbly reflected, “Children usually bask in the achievements of their parents. However, I am fortunate to be recognized through my son’s accomplishments.” He was convinced that Areeb would someday bring pride to the family, a prophecy fulfilled through his instrumental role in the mission that elevated the nation.

Today, Areeb’s mother, Nazneen, finds solace in his success. She fondly recalls his unwavering commitment and tireless study hours, culminating in the gratification of his endeavours.

In the neighbourhood, Qazi Mehtab Zia exulted, “Now, thanks to Areeb, my identity resonates with pride among the locals. Even strangers now associate me as Areeb’s father.”

A testament to relentless dedication, Areeb Ahmad is a source of inspiration, enriching his community and nation with his triumphant journey in ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission.
