Jamia Millia Islamia University Alumni Shine in Chandrayaan-3 Launch Team

The Chandrayaan-3 mission launch team featured remarkable individuals Areeb, Amit, and Kashif—former Jamia Millia Islamia University students—elevating them to hero status and a wellspring of inspiration for many. Their significant roles in the successful mission have garnered celebration from peers and faculty, emphasizing their invaluable contribution.

Amidst the jubilation, Areeb’s 78-year-old grandfather, Qazi Zubair, shared his joy: “This momentous occasion is not just a source of happiness for our family but for the entire nation.

Areeb, a unique and dedicated scholar, stands apart from his peers in his devotion to studies.” Hailing from a traditional Muslim household in Khatauli, Muzaffarnagar, in Western Uttar Pradesh, Areeb’s success embodies immense pride.

Jamia’s Vice-Chancellor, Najma Akhtar, celebrated the triumph, likening it to a festival: “Chandrayaan has touched the Moon – today feels like Eid. Chandrayaan-3’s victory calls for national revelry.” The university orchestrated collective prayers before and after the lunar landing, fostering a sense of unity and shared achievement.

Vande Mataram resonated across the campus as an anthem of jubilation, marking the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s South Pole. Areeb, Amit, and Kashif, all alums of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s 2019 batch, illuminated their alma mater’s name.

Conducted in January 2020 and July 2021, ISRO’s Centralised Recruitment Board facilitated these achievers’ entry into the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Ex-JMI student Ann Afreen found motivation in Chandrayaan-3’s quest for the unknown, emphasizing humanity’s enduring spirit in advancing space exploration.

Mohd Junaid of the Physics Department applauded the Jamia alumni’s role in showcasing India’s lunar exploration prowess, evoking national pride.

Areeb, Amit, and Kashif’s achievements highlight Jamia Millia Islamia University’s dedication to fostering global science and technology luminaries.
