Transforming India-Bangladesh Relations: The Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link Inauguration

On a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the inauguration of the Akhaura-Agartala rail link as a historic milestone. This marks a significant achievement as it establishes the first-ever rail connection between Bangladesh and the northeastern states of India.

Strengthening Bonds

PM Modi emphasized the enduring bond between Tripura and Bangladesh, which has deep roots in the Liberation struggle. This connection has been pivotal in fostering strong diplomatic and trade relations between the two nations.

Tripling Internal Trade

Highlighting the remarkable progress in bilateral trade, PM Modi revealed that the internal trade between India and Bangladesh has tripled over the last nine years. This surge in economic activity underscores the significance of this newfound connectivity.

Connectivity and Collaboration

PM Modi emphasized that to maintain peace and security at the border, India and Bangladesh have taken concrete steps. They signed a Land Boundary Agreement, a significant diplomatic achievement pending for decades. Furthermore, over the past nine years, three new bus services have been introduced, connecting Dhaka, Shillong, Agartala, Guwahati, and Kolkata.

Boosting Tourism

PM Modi celebrated the commencement of the world’s largest cruise, the Ganga Vilas, which connects India and Bangladesh. This initiative has had a significant impact on tourism, drawing visitors from various parts of the world and fostering cultural exchange.

Celebrating Joint Endeavors

On the occasion of inaugurating three development projects between India and Bangladesh, PM Narendra Modi expressed his delight, stating, “It is a matter of joy that once again, we have come together to celebrate the success of India-Bangladesh cooperation. Our relations are scaling new heights continuously.”

Unprecedented Cooperation

Highlighting the remarkable progress in diplomatic relations and development projects, PM Modi noted, “The work we have accomplished together in the last nine years surpasses the achievements of the decades before this period. Our approach of ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ extends to our neighbour, Bangladesh. We take pride in being the most substantial development partner for Bangladesh, having provided USD 10 billion in aid over the last nine years. The list of our achievements is extensive, and we are committed to furthering our joint efforts in the future.”
