The Enchanting Village of Butho: A Haven of Harmony and Prosperity

Bashir Ahmad Reshi’s aged face shines under the bright snow, creating a beautiful sight in the small village of Butho (A Haven of Harmony and Prosperity) located in the picturesque Banidpora region of northern Kashmir. Reshi, a well-known scholar and Imam, affectionately remarks, “Ded Mouj, the Saint, represents Allah’s kindness towards us.”

A Mosaic of Culture: Celebrating Coexistence

Reshi loves talking about our peaceful village. He says, “We’re proud of how well we get along. Muslims and Hindus here live together peacefully.” He also mentions how important the Kashmiri Pandits are to our community, never forgetting their history. Reshi believes our village is special because we all feel like family, no matter our backgrounds.

Nature’s Abode: Abundance and Organic Excellence

Nestled between undulating hills and rough terrain, Butho features a rich tapestry of natural riches that leave its people in awe. “We are often astounded by the diverse array of crops flourishing here,” Reshi comments with a sparkle in his eye.

Surrounded by the calm beauty of nature, this hamlet, situated only 50 kilometres from the busy metropolis of Srinagar, hides a close-knit community of 700 people living in a hundred lovely houses. Reshi attributed their agricultural wealth to Ded Mouj’s supernatural intervention, represented by the figurative “diamond” he sown in their midst, giving copious crops.

“This lovely hamlet is famed for generating about 2500 quintals of Shallots (Praan) yearly, identifying it as the largest producer of this crop in the valley. Moreover, it proudly maintains the distinction of being the first hamlet in Kashmir Valley to receive organic certification, representing its devotion to sustainable agricultural techniques and ecological care.”

In essence, Butho emerges not just as a beacon of social peace but also as a monument to nature’s generosity and the eternal spirit of its residents.
