Simran Shaikh: A Rising Star in Women’s Cricket

Uncapped batter Simran Shaikh wants to play for the Indian women’s cricket team and plans to work hard to achieve this goal. Simran grabbed attention when Gujarat Giants bought her for Rs 1.9 crore at the WPL 2025 auction making her the highest-priced player in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL).

A Warm Welcome

On auction day, Simran Shaikh’s family and the Dharavi community gave her a big welcome. She felt joy and pride in her accomplishment. She told reporters, “I put in a lot of effort and had faith in my abilities. I aim to represent India and will put in the work to make it happen. My family gave me a lot of support.”

Jahid Ali Shaikh, Simran Shaikh’s dad, showed gratitude to all for their backing and felt proud of his daughter’s win. He said, “She has made everyone proud.” Simran’s mom, Akhtari Bano Shaikh also talked about her happiness saying, “I feel good. Everyone gave her a great welcome.” At the WPL 2025 auction, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants got into a tough fight to bid for Simran.Starting at Rs 5 lakh, Gujarat Giants bought her for a whopping Rs 1.9 crore.

Simran Shaikh: Overcoming Challenges

Simran’s mom said the family felt thrilled when bidders called her name. She noted that Simran tuned out negative talk about her cricket path and stuck to her love for the game. “People kept saying, ‘Tell her to quit.’ But she blocked them out and zeroed in on cricket,” she explained. Simran ranks third among seven kids living in a tiny room in Dharavi, the biggest slum in Asia. Her dad, Zahid Ali, aims to better their living setup by finding an apartment for the family.
