Farhan Alam, a young lawyer and social worker from Prayagraj, saved a man named Ramshankar during the Mahakumbh festival. Ramshankar suffered a heart attack, and Farhan quickly performed CPR, which is a life-saving technique used when someone’s breathing or heartbeat stops. Farhan believes that helping others is a human duty, regardless of their religion.
The Incident
The incident became widely known when a video of Farhan giving CPR to Ramshankar went viral on social media. In the video, Farhan is seen pressing on Ramshankar’s chest while his wife and child watch in distress. Farhan explained that he was at the railway station when he learned about Ramshankar’s condition through a colleague. He rushed to the scene and began CPR immediately. After some effort, Ramshankar started breathing again, bringing relief to everyone around him.
Farhan Alam: Community Spirit
Farhan Alam works with UNICEF and is involved with an NGO called HAQ, which focuses on child rights. His interest in social work comes from his late father, who trained emergency medical responders. Before the Mahakumbh, Farhan trained Railway Protection Force personnel in CPR to prepare for the large number of visitors expected at the festival.
Farhan emphasized that the Mahakumbh is a time of brotherhood and communal harmony. He stated that volunteers, regardless of their religion, come together to help the devotees. After saving Ramshankar, Farhan visited him in the hospital, where Ramshankar and others thanked him for his quick action. Farhan shared that this incident showed the efforts made by the administration for the Mahakumbh and highlighted the spirit of service among the community. Many people now call Farhan Alam the real hero of the Mahakumbh for his selfless act.
