Pioneering Muslim Couple’s Legacy Inspires Daughter’s Quest for Progress

Assam’s Aftab Ahmed and Musfiqua Sultana, embodying the concept of ijtihad, exemplify how Muslims can adapt their religious beliefs to the changing times. They are the first Muslim couple in the country to donate their bodies for scientific research and medical advancement selflessly.

While body and organ donation among Muslims remain relatively low due to religious beliefs, their daughter Lubna Shaheen is resolute in continuing her parents’ noble legacy, even in the face of objections from relatives and friends citing religious concerns.

In an interview with Awaz-The Voice Assam, Lubna Shaheen expressed gratitude for growing up in a progressive Muslim family that encouraged critical thinking. Religious fundamentalism and dogma were eschewed in this nurturing environment, while Islam provided a cultural framework for their lives.

Lubna’s determination to carry forward her parents’ vision demonstrates a commitment to progress and a desire to challenge societal norms, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and compassionate future.
