In 1912, during the aftermath of the Ayodhya riots on Eid ul-Azha (Bakra-Eid), Hakim Abdul Karim Khan of Gorakhpur penned a powerful message in Mashriq, an Urdu daily. He emphasized that Islam does not impose cow sacrifice and urged Muslims to abandon it out of reverence for Hindu religious sentiments. Throughout history, Muslims have displayed great respect for cows, recognizing their sacred status for Hindus.
Numerous Ulema and Muslim rulers, either wholly or partially, prohibited cow slaughter, even during Eid ul-Azha. While Muslims consume mutton and other animals, cows remain untouched as they are venerated by the Hindu community.
