Amjad Habib’s Legendary Hair Makeover For The ‘Missile Man’ Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

The Habib Ahmed family, consisting of hairstylist Habib Ahmed and his sons Jawed, Parvez, and Amjad, shares a memorable and cherished connection with the late President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Even eight years after his passing, they fondly remember their encounters with the extraordinary President.

One particular memory that stands out is Amjad Habib giving Dr. Kalam a distinctive hairstyle that became iconic. After the Pokhran II tests in May 1998, Dr. Kalam’s hair had grown quite long, and he sought Amjad’s expertise to transform his look. Amjad created a trendsetting hairstyle with two bangs on his forehead, resembling a crescent moon, which Dr. Kalam admired. From 1998 to June 2002, Amjad continued experimenting with different styles, eventually settling on the one Dr. Kalam loved so much that he stuck with it for the rest of his life.

Amjad remembers Dr. Kalam as an extraordinary President and a warm-hearted and compassionate individual. Amjad’s father, Habib Ahmed, also had memorable interactions with Dr. Kalam, with conversations revolving around prayer, music, and a deep love for India. Dr. Kalam’s love for South Indian classical music was well-known, and he cherished his moments of solitude during evening prayers.
