Unveiling the Caste System Among Indian Muslims: A Personal Perspective

Introduction: The existence of the caste system within the Indian Muslim community sparks debates in academic circles while remaining hushed elsewhere. Some argue it is a recent political construct, while others blame academia for exaggerating its significance.

As I delve into this subject, I encounter two contrasting reactions: accusations of silencing lower castes or assumptions based on my educational background.

However, my understanding of the caste system and the historic oppression faced by lower castes did not come from academia, but rather from my paternal grandfather, Mohammad Hashim, an Islamic scholar.
