Remembering Subhash Chakravarty and Abu Abraham: Unraveling Their Unique Paths in Journalism

Subhash Chakravarty, fondly known as Dada, served as the Bureau Chief of The Times of India, an unsung journalist overshadowed by more renowned names like Kuldip Nayar. Though not a popular writer, his colleagues cherished his newshound skills and vast information. Editors valued his unmatched access to intel, especially N.J. Nanporia, who relied on Dada’s tips at The Statesman.

However, Dada led a lonely private life behind the scenes, contrasting his influential public persona. Meanwhile, Abu Abraham, a talented cartoonist, shared Dada’s chauvinistic streak, specifically towards their regional backgrounds. These memories converge in a China-related tale taking shape in my mind.
