India International Centre For Buddhist Cultures & Heritage Construction Commences In Lumbini, Nepal

The commencement of construction for the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage (IICBCH) marked a significant milestone at Lumbini, Nepal. The auspicious ‘Bhoomi Pooja’ ceremony took place in the Lumbini Monastic Zone, the revered birthplace of Gautam Buddha. Monks from diverse Buddhist nations participated in the ceremony, which signaled the initiation of the state-of-the-art facility’s construction with zero carbon emissions.

In 2022, during his visit alongside Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this cultural gem. A year later, the formal process to initiate the construction of the IICBCH commenced, reflecting the enduring spiritual and cultural connections spanning over 2,600 years between India and Nepal.

Venerable Dhammapiya, Secretary General of IBC, joyfully joined the Bhoomi Pooja, thanking Nepal for the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage. He emphasized friendship, harmony, and co-existence between India and Nepal.

The IBC oversees construction in New Delhi on LDT-allocated land following their March 2022 agreement with the Lumbini Development Trust.
