Harmony in Music: A Tale of Inter-Faith Unity

In the heart of South Delhi lies a family that defies traditional rules, creating a stunning thread of harmony despite diversity. Ghulam Hasan Khan, a Hindustani classical singer, leads this family of artists, each embracing a different religion while harmonizing together in their common passion for music.

The Khan home vibrates with the melodies of inter-faith festivity, when holidays like Holi, Diwali, Eid, and Christmas are commemorated with equal zeal. A notable illustration of this togetherness is Ghulam’s mother, Roma Abbas Khan, a Christian Ghazal singer, and his wife, Shivani Singh, a Ghazal artist seeking a Ph.D. at Delhi University, both from opposite religious backgrounds but connected by their love for music.

Legacy and Discipline

Rooted in rich musical heritage, Ghulam, an exponent of Khayal Gayaki from the prestigious Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, traces his genealogy back to the famous Mian Tansen. His rigorous upbringing under his grandfather’s guidance instilled in him the focus and commitment needed to master classical music, a heritage he now carries on to his innumerable pupils, both locally and worldwide.

A Symphony of Diversity and Devotion

Despite the problems experienced by Indian classical artists, Ghulam stays strong in his dedication to preserve the musical tradition of his Gharana. From personal Riyaz sessions to dazzling concert performances, Ghulam continues to traverse the delicate intricacies of classical music, propelled by a strong sense of purpose and satisfaction.

In the symphony of life, the Khan family stands as a monument to the power of music in overcoming borders and creating harmony. Through their unflinching devotion to their craft and each other, they build a dynamic image of inter-faith peace, enriching both the cultural fabric of India and the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide.
