Firoz Merchant: Champion of Humanitarianism and Global Jewelry Maestro

Firoz Merchant, coming from Mumbai, has built a remarkable name in both the jewelry business and philanthropic activities, notably in the UAE. Renowned for his benevolence, he yearly orchestrates the freedom of convicts who, having finished their sentences, remain jailed owing to unpaid fines.

The Birth of ‘The Forgotten Society’

In 2008, Firoz Merchant formed ‘The Forgotten Society’ to redress this injustice. Recently, he gave Rs 2.5 crore towards paying penalties for 900 convicts, showing his continuous dedication to their cause.

Despite enduring financial challenges that led him terminating his schooling, Firoz Merchant’s perseverance drove him to the UAE, where he created ‘Pure Gold Jewellers’ in 1989. Beyond financial success, he seeks to transcend boundaries with his unique jewelry creations, available internationally.

In his humanitarian activities, Firoz Merchant stresses the need to assist convicts to reconcile with their families, especially before Ramazan. The humanitarian efforts extend beyond financial relief, incorporating logistical support for inmates’ homecoming.

A Global Force of Compassion and Redemption

Since its founding, ‘The Forgotten Society’ has secured the release of almost 20,000 inmates, with intentions to free 3,000 more in 2024. Notably, Merchant’s operations stretch across several Emirates, releasing inmates from Ajman, Fujairah, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah imprisonment.

Firoz Merchant’s compassion spans boundaries, benefitting convicts from many ethnicities, including those from Afghanistan, Iraq, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, and Thailand. His activities have gained appreciation from government leaders and law enforcement agencies, demonstrating the transforming influence of his humanitarian mission.

In acknowledgment of his devotion, Colonel Mohammed Youssef Al-Matrooshi of the UAE lauds Merchant’s accomplishments, noting their compatibility with the nation’s ideal of tolerance and compassion.

Firoz Merchant’s excellent actions demonstrate the significant influence of human charity in building social wellbeing and cultivating a culture of compassion and forgiveness.
