The Journey of Rekhta: A Celebration of Urdu

In 2012, Sanjeev Saraf, the founder of the Rekhta Foundation, shared a special moment at the launch of the first Jashn-e-Rekhta festival. He mentioned Umair Manzar as the first person to join him in his journey. Umair was not just a teacher; he was the one who suggested the name “Rekhta” for the website. Today, he is an Assistant Professor at Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Lucknow. The Rekhta Foundation has become a vital resource for Urdu literature lovers, connecting people both online and offline.

Umair Manzar’s Role

Umair Manzar was surprised to hear his name mentioned by Saraf. When contacted by Awaz-The Voice, he appeared humble and did not seek credit for his contributions. He recalled meeting Saraf in 2010 when he was asked to teach Urdu. Their first meeting was at Saraf’s home, where Umair found him serious yet calm. Saraf expressed his love for Urdu and his desire to learn poetry. Umair soon realized that Saraf wanted to create an Urdu website, a dream he had cherished for years.

Rekhta: A Shared Vision

Sanjeev Saraf’s passion for Urdu was clear. He believed that the website could help many people who wanted to learn the language, especially for its beautiful poetry. Umair understood that Saraf was not just a learner; he wanted to build a community for Urdu lovers. As they worked together, Umair realized he was part of something bigger. Saraf’s vision was to create a platform that would connect Urdu enthusiasts worldwide. This collaboration marked the beginning of a journey that would celebrate and promote the rich heritage of Urdu literature.
