The Big Fat Indian Wedding: A Growing Industry

The famous Big Fat Indian wedding is not just getting bigger; it is also creating new jobs and opportunities for young professionals. Mohsin Khan from Delhi is a perfect example of how these weddings are impacting the economy. He runs a business called Vivah Luxury Weddings, where he helps couples organize their dream weddings. With the wedding season in full swing in North India, Mohsin is extremely busy making special memories for couples and their families.

Big Fat Indian Wedding: Changing Trends in Weddings

According to Mohsin, people are spending a lot on weddings in India. He says, “New generation couples want unique experiences like cocktail mixing, gaming sessions, and welcome dinners, which are inspired by Western traditions.” The wedding industry is booming, with estimates showing that around 48 lakh weddings take place in November and December, generating a business of Rs 6 lakh crore. Couples want their weddings to look like Bollywood movies, with everything from the venue to the bride’s entry being picture-perfect.

The Role of Wedding Planners

Traditionally, families handled wedding preparations, but now many couples hire wedding planners like Mohsin. He manages everything, including budgeting, guest invitations, food, and decorations. When asked about high-end weddings, Mohsin smiles and says that even celebrity weddings are normal compared to those of Indian business tycoons, which can cost over 100 crores.

Mohsin also deals with the social dynamics of weddings. He often faces conflicts between the bride and groom or their families. To ease tensions, he comes up with creative solutions. He also keeps track of relatives who might cause trouble and ensures they are well taken care of during the event. This approach helps reduce stress for the families involved, allowing everyone to enjoy the celebration.
