Mohammad Luckman Ali, a first-year Master in Social Work student at Jamia Millia Islamia University, won the gold medal in the 82 kg category at the Uttar Pradesh State Wrestling Championship in Meerut. Luckman aspires to represent India in major international events and hopes to win an Olympic medal.

Wrestling was encouraged by Luckman Ali’s late father, Chajju Ali, a former Railway employee who was impressed by the sports achievements of his colleagues.

Luckman Ali started training at a local mud akhara, 10 kilometres from his home in Moharka Patti village, Gajraula district, Western Uttar Pradesh.
