Mohammed Ziyad Wins Skoda Naming Contest

In an exciting announcement, the Indian arm of Skoda, a renowned Czech car manufacturer, revealed that 24-year-old Mohammed Ziyad from Kerala has won a competition to name their upcoming sports utility vehicle (SUV). The new vehicle, expected to launch in 2025, will be called “Kylaq,” a name derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal.

A Teacher’s Journey

Mohammed Ziyad works as a teacher at Najat College of Quran in the Kasargod region of Kerala. He has been teaching there for two and a half years. Despite his passion for cars, Ziyad shared in an interview that he is not obsessed with them. He expressed, “I want to have a car like everyone else, but my family’s financial circumstances do not allow it.” His humble background makes his achievement even more inspiring.

The Naming Competition

Skoda received hundreds of thousands of entries for the naming competition, and Ziyad’s suggestion of “Kylaq” stood out among them. One of the competition’s requirements was that the name should start with the letter ‘K’ and end with ‘Q’. Ziyad spent several days brainstorming names that fit this criterion before settling on Kylaq. He stated, “I made a list of names starting with K and ending with Q, until I finally decided on the name Kylaq.”

Recognition and Future Plans

Skoda congratulated Ziyad on their official Instagram account, expressing excitement about his win. The company stated, “We are happy to announce that he has qualified for the first Skoda Kylaq car.” Ziyad holds a degree in English from the University of Calicut and is also a memorizer of the Holy Quran, having dedicated seven years to his Quranic studies at the Al-Marjan Institute for Quran Memorization in Kerala.

In conclusion, Mohammed Ziyad’s victory in the Skoda naming contest is a remarkable story of creativity and perseverance. His journey from a teacher to the first owner of the Skoda Kylaq is sure to inspire many.
