Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Historic Campaign Kickoff in Jammu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to start his campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Jammu on Tuesday, 20 February. It’s a reminiscent move as it was from Jammu that he began his campaign for the 2014 elections, pushing himself to the role of India’s Prime Minister. His 2014 gathering witnessed an amazing turnout of over one lakh people, marking a crucial moment in Indian politics.

Modi’s Enduring Connection with J&K

Prime Minister Modi’s connection with Jammu and Kashmir returns to important past events. Notably, he was part of the bold effort led by then BJP President Murli Manohar Joshi to hoist the National Flag at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, on the 1992 Republic Day amidst the tumultuous age of terrorism. Despite facing grave risks, the Joshi-Modi team raised the national flag, representing their commitment to the region’s merger with India.

Transformative Initiatives and Political Vision

In his later trips to Jammu and Kashmir, Modi stressed different parts of government and growth. Notably, he kept from dividing language, focusing instead on problems such as the welfare of ethnic groups like the Gurjars and the effects of Article 370. Modi’s vision for the region surpassed party goals, arguing for open talks and changes helpful to the general people.

Fulfillment of Promises and Political Milestones

In his second term, Prime Minister Modi achieved the BJP’s longtime promise to remove J&K’s special status. On August 5, 2019, the state was remade into two Union Territories, marking an important milestone for the Indian government. Subsequently, numerous central laws were extended to the area, marking a paradigm shift in its governmental framework.

Looking Ahead: Modi’s Electoral Strategy

As the 2024 general elections near, Modi’s political plan focuses on leveraging the successes of ‘Mission-370.’ He sees a tremendous win for the BJP, represented by the bold goal of getting 370 seats. This number goal pays respect to party leaders like Syama Prasad Mookerjee and underscores Modi’s vision for a changed and united India.
