The Evolution of Wedding Planning in India

In India, weddings have transformed from simple ceremonies to grand events resembling award shows. Couples now seek the help of wedding planners to create spectacular celebrations that reflect their personalities. Dakshita Bhatla, founder of DB and Spaces, has seen shift in wedding ceremonies . Based in Uttarakhand, her team manages destination weddings in beautiful locations like Nainital and Udaipur. Dakshita emphasizes that the role of wedding planners has shifted from just managing logistics to being creative forces that design every detail of the wedding day.

Challenges Faced by Planners

Wedding planners face immense pressure while organizing these large events. Dakshita recalls moments when she had to set up a venue just before the baraat (wedding procession) arrived. Finding skilled vendors in remote areas adds to the challenge, unlike cities where experienced professionals are readily available. Weather also poses difficulties; Dakshita once had to mediate between a bride who wanted an outdoor wedding despite rain clouds and her parents who preferred an indoor setup. Such situations require careful handling and quick thinking.

Unique Trends in Wedding Planning

Today’s couples often have unique requests that make their weddings stand out. For instance, some brides ask for custom chairs for makeup sessions or specific diet plans leading up to the wedding. Fashion trends are also evolving; red lehengas with heavy jewelry are making a comeback, influenced by top designers like Sabyasachi. Additionally, nostalgic themes from the 90s are popular, with couples incorporating retro-inspired items into their celebrations. Dakshita’s team has even planned extravagant weddings for celebrities, showcasing their ability to blend creativity with meticulous execution. Dakshita believes that while trends may change, the experiences created during weddings are what truly matter. Her focus is on ensuring that each couple leaves with unforgettable memories, highlighting that modern weddings are as much about love as they are about spectacle.
