Rayees Mattoo Affirms Voluntary Decision to Hoist National Flag on Independence Day

Rayees Mattoo, the brother of an active Kashmiri terrorist, has made a significant statement, clarifying that his decision to hoist the national flag on Independence Day was entirely voluntary, free from any external pressure. Speaking to ANI news agency, Mattoo emphasized, “I waved the Tiranga from my heart. There was no pressure from anyone…Saare jahaan se achha Hindustan hamara, hum bulbule hain iske ye gulistan hamara.”

Rayees, who resides in Sopore town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, waved the tricolor from his house’s balcony, an act captured by the media. This act carried profound meaning, symbolizing a departure from the past. He expressed his satisfaction with the region’s development, underscoring that his shop was open on the 14th of August, a day previously marked by closures. He attributed this change to the departure of previous political games that had hindered progress.

Rayees revealed that his brother had joined militancy in 2009, and the family is unaware of his current status. Despite this, he urged his brother to return, emphasizing the altered circumstances and asserting, “Hum Hindustani they, hain aur rahenge.”

Former hartal-prone Kashmir now celebrates Independence Day with festivity. IAS officer Athar Aamir Khan showcases positive changes in Kashmir with Lal Chowk’s image.

The Bakshi sports stadium, where the ceremonial parade occurred, witnessed a considerable crowd, with long queues outside entry gates. This turnout demonstrated the evolving sentiment of the people. Ex-JNU leader Shahela Rashid acknowledges the positive impact on human rights and life in Kashmir under the Modi government.

Kashmiris joining Tiranga rallies and cultural events for Independence Day strengthen the narrative of changing dynamics. These actions depict a shift from separatism to inclusivity, promising a brighter future for the region.
