Soaring High: Kashmir’s Young Civil Services Achiever 

At age 25, Mohammed Haris Mir from Handwara, North Kashmir, achieved an extraordinary feat by clearing the prestigious Civil Services examination conducted by the UPSC in 2023 on his first attempt. The son of an oncologist, Haris Mir, secured an impressive 345th rank, marking a significant milestone in his journey. 

Inspired by Success Stories 

Haris Mir’s motivation to pursue Civil Services stemmed from the success stories of several Kashmiris who have excelled in this field in recent years. With a clear vision and unwavering determination, he set his sights on this goal soon after clearing his 10th board examinations. 

Haris Mir opted for the humanities stream for his higher secondary education to defy the traditional trend of following in his parent’s footsteps, particularly in the medical or legal professions. This decision was a conscious choice, as he recognized the value of these subjects in understanding and delivering effective administration. 

A Dedicated Journey 

After completing his matriculation from Tiny Hearts School in Srinagar, Haris Mir pursued a five-year integrated degree in Law, B.A., LL.B., from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Despite the availability of free coaching for UPSC examinations at the university, Haris preferred to prepare independently, relying on self-study and his dedication. 

Immediately after completing his Law degree, Haris Mir embarked on a year-long journey of intense preparation for the UPSC examination. Through unwavering hard work and a focused approach, he successfully cleared the examination on his first attempt, a testament to his perseverance and determination. 

Words of Wisdom 

In his message to aspiring civil servants, Haris Mir emphasizes the importance of adhering to the syllabus, taking mock tests regularly, and relying on trusted resources for each subject. Above all, he underscores the crucial role of determination and hard work in achieving success in this competitive examination. 

Haris Mir’s remarkable achievement inspires countless young individuals in Kashmir and beyond. It demonstrates that with unwavering dedication and a clear vision, even the loftiest of dreams can be realized.
