Indian Para-Athlete Bright at the Paris Paralympics

In an impressive gold medal match on Wednesday, Indian para-athlete Harvinder Singh defeated Lukasz Ciszek from Poland with a score of 6-0 in the Men’s Individual Recurve Open event at the Paris Paralympics. Harvinder showed great skill and confidence, winning the first set 28-24. He continued his strong performance in the second set, scoring two nines followed by a perfect ten, while Ciszek managed three nines. This victory is not just a personal achievement for Harvinder but also a proud moment for India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated this win on social media, highlighting Harvinder’s precision and spirit, and expressing happiness over his remarkable accomplishment.

Double Podium Success for India

India’s success did not stop with Harvinder. Para-athletes Dharambir and Pranav Soorma also made headlines by winning gold and silver medals, respectively, in the men’s club throw F51 final. With these victories, India’s total medal count at the Paris Paralympics has soared to 24, which includes five gold, nine silver, and ten bronze medals. The Indian contingent is now just one medal away from reaching the target of 25 set by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) President, Devendra Jhajharia. This series of achievements showcases the strength and determination of Indian para-athletes on an international stage.

Celebrating the Achievements

Both President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi have praised the para-athletes for their outstanding performances. PM Modi spoke with several medal winners, including Ajeet Singh Yadav, Sundar Singh Gurjar, Sharad Kumar, Mariyappan Thangavelu, and Deepthi Jeevanji. He expressed pride in India’s best-ever performance at the Paralympics and noted how their achievements inspire the youth of the country. The Prime Minister encouraged the athletes to celebrate their victories, regardless of medal colors, emphasizing that every one of them has made India proud. Their hard work and dedication are helping to make various sports more popular in the nation.
