A Journey Home: The Pravasi Bharatiya Express

On January 9, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a unique tourist train aimed at connecting the Indian diaspora with their roots. This train is specially designed for Indians living abroad, especially those aged 45 to 65. It will take passengers on a three-week adventure to explore India’s rich culture and heritage.

Exploring India’s Heritage

The Pravasi Bharatiya Express will travel to many famous tourist and religious sites across India. The journey will start from Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi and will visit exciting places like Ayodhya, Patna, Gaya, Varanasi, Mahabalipuram, Rameswaram, Madurai, Kochi, Goa, Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Ajmer, Pushkar, and Agra. With a capacity of 156 passengers, this train promises a comfortable and enriching experience for all travelers.

Remembering a Great Leader

The launch date of January 9 is significant as it marks the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa in 1915. This thoughtful choice highlights the importance of connecting the Indian diaspora with their heritage and history. The journey is part of the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana by the Ministry of External Affairs, aimed at making it easier for Indians abroad to visit their homeland.

The Ministry, along with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has opened this opportunity for low-income Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) who may not have the means to travel to India. The government will cover all expenses for the train tour and 90% of the return airfare, making it easier for participants to join this memorable journey. Travelers will stay in 4-star hotels, ensuring a comfortable experience throughout their trip.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Express is more than just a train; it’s a bridge connecting the Indian diaspora with their cultural roots, offering an unforgettable journey through India’s beautiful landscapes and historical landmarks.
