Brigadier Dr. Mukhtar Alam: A Soldier’s Journey Beyond Duty

In every army cantonment, slogans like “A soldier is always on duty” and “Duty unto death” inspire the spirit of service. Brigadier (retired) Dr. Mukhtar Alam, an 80-year-old veteran living in Pune, Maharashtra, embodies this spirit. He believes in serving the youth of India after dedicating his life to the army. As the Chairman of the Department of Genecology at Ruby Hall Hospital, he continues to make a difference in society.

Legacy of Excellence

Brigadier Alam served the Indian Army for 35 years, primarily as a Professor at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). He became the Chief Consultant of Gynecology and is often referred to as the father of AFMC for his significant contributions to military medical education. His academic excellence is evident from his seven gold medals earned during his MBBS and MD studies, making him the first topper from AFMC at Pune University.

In addition to his military career, Dr. Alam is a celebrated author with 21 published books in Hindi, English, Urdu, and Marathi. His book Youthology: How to Harness Age and Remain Young has gained immense popularity among the younger generation, exploring the connection between the desire for eternal youth and breakthroughs in medical and nutritional science.

Embracing Spirituality and Service

Brigadier Alam emphasizes the importance of discipline and spirituality in life. He believes that discipline is essential for honesty, hard work, and motivation. He describes spirituality as a personal journey that helps individuals discover their true selves and attain inner peace. He encourages practices like meditation, self-reflection, and maintaining pure thoughts to enhance one’s life.

According to Brigadier Alam, every event in life serves a purpose, and intangible experiences contribute to the soul’s growth. He urges the youth to embrace spirituality to achieve meaningful goals. “Let us build an India that shines with spiritual richness and diversity,” he says. He envisions India as a symbol of peace and religious harmony, reinforcing that spirituality is the true strength of the nation.
