Nahid Afrin: Assam’s Rising Star and UNICEF’s Youth Advocate for Children’s Welfare

Nahid Afrin’s journey to fame began when she became the second runner-up in the 2015 edition of Indian Idol Junior. This remarkable achievement paved the way for her debut as a playback singer in Bollywood with the film “Akira” starring Sonakshi Sinha. Her melodious voice and undeniable talent caught the attention of audiences nationwide, cementing her position as a rising star in the Indian music industry.

India’s Youth Advocate

In a significant milestone, Nahid Afrin was recently appointed as a Youth Advocate by UNICEF India. Alongside three other exceptional young advocates from different states, she will collaborate with Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor-Khan, who serves as UNICEF’s National Ambassador. This prestigious role recognizes Nahid’s commitment to championing critical issues affecting children and young people, including climate action, mental health, innovation, and promoting girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.

Addressing Child Marriage and Mental Health Challenges

Nahid Afrin’s association with UNICEF India dates back to 2018 when she was named the ‘Child Rights Champion’ for the North East region. During this time, she dedicated her efforts to raising awareness and combating the issue of child marriage in Assam. Her involvement in anti-child marriage campaigns and activities extended until 2020, showcasing her unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of children.

As a Youth Advocate, Nahid plans to leverage her platform to address not only child marriage but also the pressing matter of mental health among children and adolescents. With her background in psychology from Cotton University, she aims to create awareness and provide support to help young individuals cope with stress, pressure, and mental health challenges. Additionally, Nahid intends to focus on promoting the overall development of children, particularly in rural areas, by emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition, breastfeeding, and parental education.
