Unity in Diversity at Maha Kumbh Mela

These Muslim girls are not just artists; they are ambassadors of unity and harmony at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as the largest religious fair globally, is getting underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This grand event showcases the inherent Unity in Diversity of Indians from all backgrounds. Of these activities, local student organizations are playing an active role in the beautification processes of the city as a way of falling in place during such a historic event.

Review of Shara Khan Artistic Contribution

Shara Khan, a student in class ninth in Daraganj is one of them who are powerful young artists. Recently, she painted many beautiful murals of the energetic and colourful theme at previously ignored walls of Prayagraj. Even though she is not an artist, Shara has some real passion for painting to serve the city. With her friend Pingla- a graduate student at Allahabad University- Shara feels the need to participate in enhancing the outlook of the city in view of the hundreds of thousands that will be arriving in the wake of the Kumbh Mela.

The paintings which have been done on the walls include paintings of gods and goddesses and scenes from Ramayana. About 45 crore people are expected to perform the ritual of ‘Snans’ at Sangam Triveni where Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati add water over 45 days; these ART installations are crucial for welcoming the visitors.

Transforming the Cityscape

The railway stations in and around Prayagraj are also being nicer places with murals that depict the Hindu mythology. Children engaged in the making of those murals have chosen topics that capture cultural and religious history of the city. It evokes the stories of Ramayana, Krishna Leela, Lord Buddha, Shiv Bhakti, Ganga Aarti, and Women Empowerment about traditions of the city.

These Muslim girls are not just artists; they are ambassadors of unity and harmony at the Maha Kumbh Mela. They actively contribute to the general fight for the appreciation of diversity, tolerance, and love between different groups of people. They interact with devotees and tourists and narrate with them about their occupation and the implications for the nation.
