Over 11,000 Pilgrims, Including 132 Solo Women, from Jammu and Kashmir to Perform Hajj This Year

Over 11,000 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir are set to travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj, with 132 of them being solo women pilgrims. The Hajj Committee of India processed over 14,000 applications, with eligible women who applied to travel without a mahram being included and without being subject to a draw of lots.

The relaxation of Hajj rules by the Saudi Arabian government allows solo women above the age of 45 to travel. Similarly, Indian Haj authorities have also changed their rules to enable women to undertake the pilgrimage alone.

Safeena Beg, the first woman chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Hajj committee, oversaw the selection process.
