Defying Odds: Bhawana Kesar’s Inspiring Journey to Become Jammu and Kashmir’s First Woman Civil Service Judge

Bhawana Kesar, a tailor’s daughter from Nowshera, Rajouri district, has etched her name in history by becoming the first woman from her region to clear the prestigious Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service (Judicial) examination. Her remarkable achievement has brought immense pride and joy to her family, defying the challenges of living near the Line of Control (LoC).

Overcoming Adversities

Hailing from a middle-class family, Bhawana’s father runs a small tailor shop in Naushahra Bazaar, while her mother is a homemaker. Despite the modest means, her parents wholeheartedly supported her ambitions, working tirelessly to ensure she received the best education. After completing her schooling, Bhawana pursued her graduation and LLB from Punjab University, Chandigarh.

A Beacon of Inspiration

Reflecting on her journey, Bhawana expressed her delight at realizing her dream, saying, “It is a matter of happiness for my parents that their daughter has come so far. I want to be an inspiration for others going forward. Living close to the Line of Control (LoC) is no ‘excuse’ to give up one’s dreams.”

Empowering Words for the Youth

Bhawana’s message resonates with the youth, particularly young girls, encouraging them to fearlessly pursue their aspirations regardless of the circumstances. “My message to all the girls out there is to pursue your education and never give up on their dreams, no matter what. They should not fear what’s happening around them and bravely face and overcome all situations that they find themselves in. Everything is easy if one can set one’s mind to a task. Just do it!”

Paving the Way for More Achievers

Bhawana’s success story serves as a beacon of hope for others in her native district, inspiring them to break through barriers and reach for their goals. “I wish more judges from my native district. If you want to accomplish something, you can do it against all odds,” she added, emphasizing the power of determination and perseverance.

As Bhawana Kesar embarks on her new role as a civil service judge, her remarkable journey stands as a testament to the incredible heights that can be achieved through unwavering dedication and a relentless spirit, even in the face of adversity.
