According to Dr. Yogeesh D Kamat, a Consultant Orthopedician and Sports Medicine at KMC Hospital in Mangalore, at least one-fifth of the population has flat feet and knock kneedness due to their genetics. Such individuals pursuing running sports are more prone to ankle injuries and foot strains, and they are also at a higher risk of knee cruciate ligament injuries.

To prevent repeated injuries, it is crucial to educate parents and coaches to inspect children when they make choices for pursuing specific sports.

This way, they can guide children into making the right choices in the beginning itself, taking into consideration their genetic predispositions.
