Nawab Jehan Begum: The Royal Artist with a Golden Touch

Nawab Jehan Begum, hailing from the Royal Family of Bhopal, has made a name for herself as an internationally acclaimed artist. Her unique style, which involves painting with a kitchen knife and incorporating 24-carat gold into her artworks, has earned her global recognition. She has showcased her talent at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and set a world record acknowledged by Harvard World Records London.

Preserving Cultural Heritage Through Art

Jehan Begum’s art goes beyond personal expression. She has made history by incorporating real gold into Gond Art, a tribal art form from Madhya Pradesh. She also creates Mandana art, another traditional art form from the region. Her commitment to preserving cultural heritage is evident in her work, seen at various prestigious locations including the Taj Lakefront Bhopal and Bhopal airport.

From Introvert to Inspiring Artist

Despite being an introvert since childhood, Jehan Begum found her voice through art. She credits her mother and college professors for recognizing and nurturing her talent. Her first childhood memory of painting involves capturing scenes from her classroom window and drawing her favourite cartoons. This quiet observation has contributed to the creation of her greatest artworks.

Jehan Begum’s talent has been widely recognized. She received the Yodha Award in Bhopal in 2023, followed by the Nari Shakti Award and Woman of Substance Award in 2024. She was also crowned Pride of Madhya Pradesh in 2024. Her painting of the tricolour for the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, featuring “Jai Hind” in 12 different Indian languages, went viral on social media.

Her artwork has found homes across India and in countries like the UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, the Maldives, and Abu Dhabi. Jehan Begum’s journey from a quiet, creative child to an internationally acclaimed artist is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance in art.
