On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Dras, Ladakh, to observe the 24th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023. This significant day is a heartfelt homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan.
At the poignant Kargil War Memorial, the Raksha Mantri solemnly laid a wreath honoring the fallen heroes who displayed extraordinary courage in the icy heights of Kargil. As the chief guest, he participated in the somber commemoration ceremony. Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar joined in paying floral tributes to the fallen jawans. At the same time, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan also offered his respects, commemorating the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Kargil conflict.
Before the event, the Army conducted a press briefing on Tuesday at Lamochen, Drass. The briefing commenced with a poignant audio-visual presentation, capturing the gallantry and sacrifice of the jawans during the 1999 Kargil conflict. The commemoration event unfolded against the breathtaking backdrop of the mountains, where the soldiers valiantly engaged the Pakistani intruders in fierce battles. The soul-stirring melodies of the military band further intensified the somber atmosphere as soldiers gathered to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas.
