Havildar Abdul Majid Hussain’s Sacrifice on Republic Day

As the nation marked its 75th Republic Day, the valorous Indian Army and residents of Poonch’s Ajote village, nestled in the border area of Jammu and Kashmir, came together to commemorate the selfless sacrifice of Havildar Abdul Majid Hussain. This brave commando, a member of the elite Parachute Regiment’s 9th Battalion, laid down his life during an anti-terror operation in Rajouri in November the previous year.

A Warrior’s Roots

Havildar Abdul Majid hailed from a family dedicated to service in the armed forces. Growing up with the aspiration to join the military, his journey reflects a deep-rooted commitment to defending the nation.

The Night of Valor

In the darkness of the night on November 22, the Indian Army and J&K Police initiated a siege in the jungles of Kalakote, targeting terrorists. During the intense search operation, Havildar Abdul Majid Hussain, displaying unparalleled courage, engaged the terrorists attempting to escape from a temporary mud house. Tragically, he succumbed to bullet injuries, saving numerous civilian lives and fellow force personnel.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

The operation concluded with the elimination of all terrorists, but not without the sacrifice of other brave souls – Captain MV Pranjal, Captain Shubham Gupta, L-NK Sanjay Bisht, and Paratrooper Sachin Laur. Majid Hussain’s heroism had already made him a local legend in Poonch, and the posthumous award of the Kirti Chakra by the government further elevated his status.

A Legacy of Courage

On Republic Day, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 25 Infantry Division, paid tribute to Havildar Abdul Majid Hussain’s family. The Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest award for bravery in peacetime, symbolizes his conspicuous bravery and selfless sacrifice, resonating not only in Poonch and Rajouri but throughout the Union Territory of J&K.

Perpetual Inspiration

Havildar Abdul Majid Hussain, remembered as the Hero of Poonch, leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and dedication. His gallantry award serves as a perpetual source of inspiration, transcending time and inspiring future generations. The people of J&K, especially in Poonch and Rajouri, stand indebted to this courageous commando whose actions symbolize honor, bravery, and the relentless pursuit of peace and security.
