Shahid Rashid Bhat: The Kashmiri Fashion Sensation Reviving the Pheran

Shahid Rashid Bhat, a 26-year-old fashion sensation from Kashmir, is one of India’s most promising fashion designers. He was born and raised in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Growing up, he had a keen interest in fashion and design, which led him to pursue a career in the industry.

Journey with NIFT

In 2012, Shahid Rashid Bhat started his journey in fashion by joining the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) for graduation. The institution, known for its excellence in fashion education, provided Shahid with a strong foundation in design, textiles, and garment manufacturing. During his time at NIFT, he also participated in several fashion shows, which helped him gain exposure and experience in the industry.

National and International Recognition

After graduating from NIFT, Shahid Rashid Bhat participated in many national and international events. He showcased his designs at the Lakme Fashion Week and the Amazon India Fashion Week, among others. He also represented India at the International Fashion Showcase in London, organized by the British Council.

Restoring the Glory of Pheran

Despite his success in the industry, Shahid Rashid Bhat always remembered his roots. He aimed to revive the traditional winter gown of Kashmir, known as Pheran. The Pheran is a long woolen garment worn by men and women in the valley during winter. However, the Pheran had lost popularity over the years, and the younger generation started to view it as outdated and unfashionable.

A Mix of Culture and Punk Wear

Shahid Rashid Bhat’s approach to fashion combines culture and punk wear. He blends traditional Kashmiri embroidery and prints with contemporary designs, creating a unique fusion that appeals to both the old and the new. He uses a variety of fabrics, such as wool, silk, and cotton, and experiments with different colors and textures to create visually stunning garments.

Appreciation from the Valley

Shahid Rashid Bhat’s designs have received appreciation from all over the valley. The younger generation, who had previously ignored the Pheran, have started to see it in a new light. Shahid’s designs have made the Pheran fashionable again, and young people now wear it with pride. His designs have also caught the fashion industry’s attention in India and abroad.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Shahid Rashid Bhat is a talented fashion designer making waves in the industry. His dedication to restoring the glory of the Pheran is commendable, and his unique blend of culture and punk wear has set him apart from his peers. Shahid Rashid Bhat will achieve even greater heights with his innovative designs and passion for fashion.
