Areeba Anwar Wins National Award for Academic Excellence

Areeba Anwar, a bright undergraduate student from the Department of Biosciences at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has achieved a significant milestone by winning the Damodarashri National Award for Academic Excellence 2024. Her essay, titled “Victory Will Be of Human Spirit,” stood out among many entries from students across India. This award has been presented by SS Khanna Girls Degree College in Prayagraj, which is affiliated with Allahabad University, for the past 15 years, celebrating the hard work and talent of students.

Tough Competition

This year, the competition was fierce, with over 2,000 participants submitting their essays. From these, only 10 essays were selected for the final round. Areeba’s essay not only made it to the top 10 but was also declared the winner for the best undergraduate essay in the entire country. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a memento, and books worth Rs 5,000. The award ceremony is held every year on October 2, which is a special day for celebrating achievements in education.

Support and Preparation

Areeba represented her university in this prestigious competition, which was organized by the Literature, Fine Arts, Quiz, and Debate Club under the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) office at JMI. Before heading to Prayagraj for the final presentation of her essay, Areeba sought guidance from Dr. Rumi Naqvi, a member of the Sahitya Club. Dr. Naqvi provided her with valuable suggestions that helped strengthen her essay.

Areeba’s 5,000-word essay emphasized the resilience of the human spirit. She discussed how this spirit is crucial not only for our survival but also for the progress and development of our nation. Her essay was chosen as the best among 2,003 submissions from central universities, highlighting her talent and hard work. This achievement is a proud moment for Areeba Anwar and Jamia Millia Islamia, showcasing the academic excellence and creativity of the university’s students.
